Caring Hands Updates

Covid 19 has changed all of our lives and kept us apart. While we will have our September luncheon, as with everything else, things will be different.

Caring Hands had suspended all volunteer opportunities and “clean out your closet” donations until further notice. At this time, the agencies we have volunteered with in the past are not open for volunteering right now.

BUT…… there are ways we can still volunteer, albeit it socially distant, and over the next few weeks, I’ll enclose them in the Weekly Digest.

Our book and magazine and puzzle sharing is on hold until sometime in the future. BUT, since you have all been reading and doing puzzles and are probably looking for something new to read, we have just the solution. Amy Watercott has graciously volunteered to collect all of our reading material and puzzles and manage a lending library for us. This is a great way to find something new as well as share items you have already read. Contact Amy at awatertx@gmail.com to arrange a no contact time to drop off your items and browse through all the donated items in her garage. Amy lives in the La Conterra neighborhood. Thank you, Amy, and let’s all support her!

Keeping in touch with family and friends is so important. Phone calls. Email. Written letters. However, so many people do not have that in their lives. How can we help?

Enter “The Pen Pal Project.” Nursing homes and care facilities across the country have become a part of a country wide pen pal writing program. You can find out more about it, and get the names and addresses of dozens of nursing home residents, discover their interests, and start a correspondence. I’ve already done it, and wow, it makes you feel good! Maybe grandchildren would be interested in having some more “grandparents.”

Until next time, stay safe and safe!
